Wedding band and DJ package: what to actually book
Most Irish couples don't need a separate DJ. Here's why, what's included with a MusicAngel band package, and when it makes sense to add a dedicated DJ on top.
The short answer
Every MusicAngel evening band package already includes DJ-style music between and after the band's live sets, played through the same PA. That covers the music gap before the band starts, during their break, and from the end of the band's final set through to the venue's curfew.
For most Irish weddings that's all the "DJ" you need. Adding a separate dedicated wedding DJ is meaningful only in specific scenarios, covered below.
What's included with the band
- Pre-band music: curated playlist while guests are taking seats, between speeches and the band starting.
- Between-set DJ music, keeps the floor warm during the band's break.
- Post-band music, from the end of the band's final set through to the curfew.
- Same PA system: sound is consistent; no audible handover.
- Curated to your taste: share preferences in your enquiry and we'll match the vibe.
When a separate DJ makes sense
There are real cases where a dedicated DJ on top of the band is worth the extra spend:
- Late-night extension to 3am+. If your venue allows late curfew and you want a DJ pulling crowd requests for 2+ hours after the band, hire a real DJ.
- Specific genre preferences. If you want a dedicated Afrobeats, House, or Trad-Irish DJ for a specific portion of the night.
- Very large weddings (250+). A separate DJ can run a second dance space.
- Specific cultural elements. For example, an Indian wedding with a sangeet DJ, or a Brazilian wedding with a samba DJ.
For everything else, the band's included DJ music is sufficient. You're paying for live performance, and the band's playlist between sets is designed to lead into and out of their own live set without disruption.
What a separate DJ costs in Ireland
A dedicated wedding DJ in Ireland typically adds €400-€800 to the band package, depending on venue, hours, and the DJ. For context on the broader pricing landscape, see our wedding band cost guide.
How the handover works
If you do book both a MusicAngel band and a separate DJ, we coordinate timings ahead of the day:
- The band's final song segues into the DJ's first track without an audible gap.
- Sound levels are matched so guests don't notice a volume jump.
- Lighting hands off from band-stage to DJ-floor cleanly.
- Typically the band ends 11:30pm-12am and the DJ runs the floor to 1:30am-3am.
What to ask in your enquiry
- Confirm what's included in the band's DJ-style music slots.
- Mention any specific genres or playlists you want covered between sets.
- If your venue allows late curfew and you'd consider a separate DJ, ask for a quote with and without.
